Charles F. Kriete, 87, of Gardners, passed away Sunday, November 9, 2014 at his home. He was the widower of Dorothy E. Kriete who passed away June 24, 2014. Charles was born December 29, 1926 in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late Otto Emil and Mayme Harlamert Kriete. Charles retired from the US Army as a Chaplin (Colonel) with 26 years’ service. He was awarded the Air Medal and Bronze Star and served in the Vietnam War and later, as Commandant of the Chaplain’s School. He was a distinguished Fellow of the US Army War College and served as President of the Board of the Sarah A. Todd Memorial Home. He was a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Charles loved to work with his hands, including building model airplanes, carving wood and making furniture. He loved Dixieland Jazz.

He is survived by his loving family; a daughter, Barbara (Stephen) Landis of Carlisle; three sons, Peter F. (Debra) Kriete of Harrisburg, PA, Norman Otto (Karol) Kriete of Wendell, NC and Charles Nicholas (Ellen) Kriete of Birmingham, MI; seven grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Charles was predeceased by his brother, Bruce G. Kriete.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM Saturday, November 15, 2014 in the St. Patrick Catholic Church, 85 Marsh Dr., Carlisle, PA with the Very Rev. William C. Forrey, VF, celebrant. Interment will be in the St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery, with honors by the Cumberland County Honor Guard. A viewing will be held in the Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt. Holly Springs Friday, November 14, 2014 from 6 to 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Preservation Hall Foundation, 828 Royal St. # 534, New Orleans, LA 70116.
