Charles L. Bitner, Sr.

Charles L. Bitner, Sr., 88, of Mt. Holly Springs, PA, passed away on January 18, 2025, in the UPMC Carlisle Hospital. He was born June 24, 1936, in Newville, to the late Clayton and Helen (Peiper) Bitner.

Charles retired after 44 years of service from the Carlisle Tire and Wheel. His memberships include the Fraternal Order of Eagles Post 1299, The Circle in Carlisle, Minnequa Social Club of Shippensburg, VFW Post 7343 and American Legion Post 674 in Mt. Holly Springs. In his younger years, he loved to ride snowmobiles, fish, go deer hunting, ride motorcycles, and camping, especially at Colonial Beach, Western Village, and Free Spirit. In his later years, he listened to Tradio on the radio and watched WWE Wrestling on TV nearly every day. Charles especially loved spending time with his grandson, Joey.

Surviving is his loving wife, together for 44 years, Doris J. (Miller) Bitner of Mt. Holly Springs; children, Calvin Roth (Lisa) of Newville, Virginia A. Keck (Steve) of Florida, and William Brownawell (Violet) of North Carolina; eleven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and three great- great -grandchildren; siblings, Irvin Bitner and Vesta Kutz; daughter-in-law, Judy Bitner; and many nieces and nephews. Charles was preceded in death by his children, Charles Bitner, Jr., Sam Roth, and Jeannie Laney, and siblings, Betty Miller, Laura Young, Wilmer, Clayton, Carl, and Benny Bitner.

A memorial service will be held Monday, January 27, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 501 N. Baltimore Ave, Mt. Holly Springs, PA 17065 with Pastor Daniel Murray officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service and luncheon will follow in the Mt. Holly Springs Church of God. Arrangements are being handled by Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory.
