Charles Kenneth Bassett, 74, of Carlisle, PA, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at the UPMC Pinnacle Carlisle. Charles was born June 16, 1943 in Troy, NY to the late Kenneth Charles and Johanna Osl Bassett. He is the widower of Cynthia Clay Bassett, who passed away in 1986.
A graduate of West Chester University, Charles received a Bachelors of Science in education and a Masters Degree from Shippensburg University. Charles retired from the Carlisle Area School District, after 43 years of service, teaching at the Crestview Elementary School. He was an active member of the Carlisle United Methodist Church, where he taught Adult Sunday School for many years and volunteered at the Bosler Memorial Library Bookery, Carlisle Regional Performing Arts Center and Cumberland County Historical Society. He was to receive the Roger K. and Helen E. Todd Distinguished Service Award this year.
Surviving are his children, Christa L. and Chad A. Bassett, both of Carlisle; sister, Bobbi Bassett of Carlisle; and nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his beloved companions, Daisy and Molly.
Services will be held Monday, October 9, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Carlisle United Methodist Church, 45 S. West St., Carlisle, PA 17013, with Rev. Jim Van Zandt and Rev. Mira Hewlett officiating. A visitation will be Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to his church, Friends of Bosler Memorial Library, P.O. Box 730, Carlisle, PA 17013 or Cumberland County Historical Society, 21 N. Pitt St., Carlisle, PA 17013. Arrangements are being handled by Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Mt. Holly Springs, PA.
