Bill “Popeye” Herscher, 89, of Carlisle passed away just shy of his 90th birthday on August 26, 2024, in Carlisle, PA. He was born September 15, 1934, in Lombardy Hall cemetery, Wilmington DE.
Bill was a truck driver for 35 years, before retiring from Carolina Freight. He was a volunteer fire fighter with North Middleton Township, where he earned the nickname “Popeye”. He also served over 15 years with Carlisle Special fire police.
Bill thoroughly enjoyed deep sea fishing with his daughter, son-in-law, and friends out of Lewis, Delaware. He enjoyed watching and attending NASCAR races and supporting the Philadelphia Eagles!
He is survived by his daughter, Antoinette Lehman, son in law, Gary Lehman Jr of Carlisle, PA, and his loving cousins, Margaret (Grady) Young, Elizabeth Painter, Barbara (Vince) Digiacomo and Charles Paul (Alane) Purse all of Wilmington, DE.
Services are being held privately in Lewis Delaware, at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dementia Society of America, PO Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901.Arrangements are being handled by Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Mt.
