Betty June King, 92, passed away Tuesday afternoon, July 23, 2013 at the Sarah A. Todd Memorial Home. A life-long resident of Carlisle, she was born September 10, 1920 a daughter of William McKinley Pittenger and Ella Coover. Her husband, Vaughn C. (Barney) King predeceased her on June 12, 2010.

She is survived by two daughters, Carol A. Greenholt (and husband, Kevin), Carlisle, and Karen Sue Keith, Hockessin, Delaware; two granddaughters, Karen E. (Greenholt) Geyer, Carlisle, and Alexandra N. Keith, Hockessin; two great grandsons, Caleb A. Geyer and Zachary L. Geyer, Carlisle, and a sister, Geneva Pittenger, Carlisle.

A 1938 graduate of Carlisle High School, she was active in assisting in the arrangement of many class reunions. In her youth she was a member of the American Legion Post 101 Drum Corps. A former employee of Piezo Crystal Plant in Carlisle, she retired with 23 years of service in the Dickinson College bookstore. Betty served as a Girl Scout leader for ten years.

A member of the Grace United Methodist Church since the age of 12, she served as secretary of the Pastor/Parish Relations Committee for 10 years. She was a 50 plus year member and former officer of the Old Bellaire Chapter No. 375 of the Order of Eastern Star. She was president of the Ladies of the Elk for 26 years and a life member of the Carlisle Civic Club.

The family wishes to express sincere thanks to the staff of the Todd Home, in particular the loving care given by the 3 rd hall nursing unit.

Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory of Mt. Holly Springs will handle the funeral arrangements.  A  Memorial Service will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM with a viewing/visitation from 10:00 until 11:00 at Carlisle United Methodist Church, Pomfret and West Streets, Carlisle, with the Rev. James VanZandt officiating. An Eastern Star service will be held at 10:50 AM. Burial will follow the service in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Churchtown, Pa.
