Fred O. Bear, 85, of Mt. Holly Springs, passed away Thursday evening at his home. He was born February 17, 1928 in Carlisle to the late J. Raymond and Elsie Porter Bear and was a retired brick layer belonging to Local Union # 71.

Fred was a member of the Mt. Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dickinson Twp., and the Mt. Holly Springs Fish & Game Club where he was a Director for 20 years and helped to rebuild the building after a fire destroyed it. He loved baseball; Fred organized the Mt. Holly Springs Little League and was the first manager of the former Joseph Gibson Funeral Home Team which won the championship the first year. Fred was the last family member of the Little Bailey Run Hunting Camp in Potter County. He was a member of the AARP, Life member of NRA, Past Commander of the South Mountain American Legion Post 674, and also belonged to the VFW Post 7343, Eagles Aerie 1299 and the Cumberland Star Lodge # 197. He was an Army Veteran during WWII serving 1946 through 1948.

Fred is survived by his wife, Kathryn Warner Bear and three daughters, Diana K. (Dale) Thomas of Mt. Holly Springs, Janet I. (Randy) Mellinger of Montana and Cynthia A. (George) Lybrand of Gardners. Fred had 5 grandchildren, 1step grandson, 6 great grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren. Also, surviving is his brother, Howard (Vesta) Bear and his twin sisters, Helen Marie Witmer and Ella (George) Nickel, all of Carlisle.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 23 at 10:00 AM in the Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt. Holly Springs with Revs. Eric Anderson and Dave Clark officiating, Interment will be in the Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, West Pennsboro Twp.  A viewing will be held Monday evening, July 22, from 6 to 8 PM in the funeral home and 1 hour prior to services on Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice For All Seasons, 2741 Paxton St., Suite 200, Harrisburg, PA 17111 or to the Amelia S. Givin Free Library, 114 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt. Holly Springs, PA 17065.
