Barbara McAdoo Hoelscher, 66, of Carlisle, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2014 in the Hershey Medical Center. She was born October 23, 1947 in Saginaw, MI to the late John H. and Margaret Meals McAdoo. Barbara graduated from Carlisle High School and Dickinson College, and received her Master’s Degree from Lehigh University. In her youth, she had been a foreign exchange student to Germany and then taught German, retiring from the Cumberland Valley School District. She loved to travel, and hosted many people visiting the US from Europe and Germany. Barbara was an active member of the Second Presbyterian Church and was also a member of Carlisle Area Newcomers Club and the American Association of University Women. She dearly loved her cats and was an outstanding Bridge player.
Barbara is survived by two brothers; John H. McAdoo of Carlisle and David R. (Betty) McAdoo of Kernersville, NC; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Helen McAdoo Cook.
Memorial Services will be held Friday, August 1, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the Second Presbyterian Church, 528 Garland Drive, Carlisle with Rev. Jennifer J. McKenna and Rev. John L. Larson (director of music) officiating. There will be a visitation on Thursday, July 31, 2014, from 6 to 8 PM in her church and after the memorial services on Friday. Interment will be in the Mt. Holly Springs Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Central PA Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 2405 Park Drive, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
