Alta W. Sheaffer, 86, of Mechanicsburg, PA, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at the Thornwald Nursing Home in Carlisle, PA. She was born November 1, 1935, in Camp Hill, PA to the late Hughlett S. and Mildred Mae (Nonemaker) Woodward, and she was the widow of Ralph W. E. Sheaffer.
Alta was an active, lifelong member of the Camp Hill Church of God. She had a heart of service, serving her church in many ways including in her later years, telephone and card ministry. She also volunteered at New Hope Ministries, Meals on Wheels, and Camp Hope for many years. Alta loved the simple life.
Surviving is her daughter, Donna (Craig) Brosious of Mechanicsburg; daughter-in-law, Susan Sheaffer of Mechanicsburg; five grandchildren: Robert (Johnna) Sheaffer, Jenna (Ted) Butcher, Emma (Patrick) Boylan, Evan Brosious (Fiancé, Paige Snyder), and Jack Sheaffer; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, R. Douglas Sheaffer; three brothers: Vance, Lee, and Robert Woodward, and her sister, Doris Long.
A graveside service, where all are welcome, will be held Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at 1:00 PM at the Slate Hill Mennonite Church Cemetery, 1352 Slate Hill Road, Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, 17011 with Pastor George Spangler and Pastor Jason Cooksey officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Doubling Gap Center with attention to “Camp Hope,” 1550 Doubling Gap Road, Newville, PA 17241.
