Alice Beam

d. January 24, 2014

Alice White V. Beam, 96, entered into eternal life on Friday, January 24, 2014 at the Church of God Home, Carlisle; having moved there in April 2013 from her Letort Manor Apartment. Prior to July, 2011, she was a resident of Boiling Springs, PA for 40 years. Alice was born in Lewistown, PA on January 31, 1917 to the late Clyde W. & Elsie Hunt Horner. She was predeceased by her husbands, Eslin White and Glenn Beam.

Alice had been a member of the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church and sang in the choir. She was previously employed by Knouse Foods, Masland Carpets and Sheaffer Trucking. Alice enjoyed reading, flowers, her family and taking care of her home. In years past, she was known as the “Rose Lady,” for the beautiful roses she grew and loved so much.  Alice was always willing to share with family and friends, especially at the ”beauty shop,” and was very generous to all and had a great capacity to comfort others. Her greatest pleasure came at the holidays, when she would cook a feast for her family, until the task became too much. She was a loving wife, mother, & grandmother, and will be missed by friends as well as family.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen V. (Tom) Crum of Carlisle; her daughter-in-law, Delores White of  Mt. Holly Springs and grandchildren, Debra White, David White and Timothy Kuhn. Also surviving are four great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; two sisters, Esther Eslick of Arizona and Bernice Begel of Pheonixville, PA and a brother, Donald (Ruth) Horner of Belleville, PA . She was predeceased by her son, Donald A. White; grandsons, Harry B. “Joey” Kuhn III, Daniel ”Danny” White  and Duane White; a brother, Clyde Horner and sisters, Bertha Goss, Anna Lehman and Ruth Bridge.

The family would like to thank everyone for cards, flowers, calls and kindness during their time of sorrow. Special thanks to the staff at the home, particularly those closely involved with her wonderful care and support during her stay and especially during the last months and weeks of her life.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, January 30, 2014 in the Church of God Chapel, 801 N. Hanover St., Carlisle, PA 17013 with Chaplin Bradley Moore officiating.
