Albert R. “Sonny” Shoffner, 88, of Carlisle passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at his home in Dickinson Twp. He was born April 9, 1926 in West Fairview, PA to the late Lester and Mary Elizabeth Langletz Shoffner.
Albert retired from Wilcox in Mechanicsburg, where he worked as an industrial blacksmith; previously, he had been employed by the PA Railroad. He was a member of the Barnitz United Methodist Church and was a WWII Army veteran. An avid outdoorsman, Albert enjoyed fishing on the Susquehanna River, duck hunting and making his own duck decoys. He dearly loved his cats and was a tinkerer at heart.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy R. Anderson Shoffner and a son, Robert R. (Christine) Shoffner of Carlisle. Albert is also survived by a brother Harold T. Shoffner in Sullivan Co., PA. He was predeceased by 2 brothers, Lester L. and Marvin L. and a sister, Claire L. Kling.
Services will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt. Holly Springs, PA 17065 with the Rev. Matthew Plant officiating. There will be a viewing Wednesday, October 22 at the funeral home from 6-8 PM. Interment will be in the Mt. Holly Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his church, Barnitz United Methodist Church, 23 Church Lane, Carlisle, PA 17015.
