John P. Day, 75, of Carlisle, passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2013 in the Carlisle Regional Medical Center. He was born March 23, 1937 to the late L. Corman and Dorothy Beam Day and is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jean H. Day. John retired from the Big Spring School District with 34 years of service having taught business and driver education at the high school. Active in the community, John volunteered for the Big Spring Area Food Bank and the Plainfield Fire Company; he was a member of the Plainfield Lions Club and served as treasurer for 34 years. As a member of the West Hill United Methodist Church, John contributed in many ways; he was a Sunday School teacher, choir member, church treasurer, trustee, lay leader and Sunday School Superintendent. John enjoyed hunting, walking, gardening, woodworking and traveling. With his giving kind spirit, he built furniture for family and friends, wagons for the grandchildren and helped with many construction projects for the community and neighbors. During his travels, that included all fifty states, he loved meeting people and exploring new places.
Besides his loving wife, John is survived by a son, Roger Day and his wife Kimberly of Carlisle, PA; a daughter, Judith Juzefyk and her husband Thomas of Leesport, PA; and three grandchildren, Cassie Juzefyk, and Rebekah and Rachel Day. Also surviving is a brother, L. Corman Day Jr. of Gardners, PA.
Funeral services will be held at the Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt. Holly Springs, PA on Monday, January 28, 2013 at 10:00 AM. The Rev. Lisa Klinger will officiate. Burial will be in the Uriah Church Cemetery, Gardners, PA. A viewing will be held on Sunday, January 27 from 2-4 PM and one hour prior to the service on Monday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to his church at 4133 Enola Rd., Newville, PA 17241.
